5 Ways to Stop Snoring: From Weight Loss to Anti-Snoring Devices

Snoring is a very common problem caused by vibration of the soft tissues of the upper airway part of the airway that runs from the voice locks at the back of the throat. That little section there is held over by muscle. There's no bone, no cartilage there.

As people fall asleep, the muscle naturally goes slack. When you breathe in and out, that tissue vibrates and produces snoring. Snoring, for the most part, it's a benign phenomenon, but the important thing about it is about 20% of people who snore actually have sleep apnea.

There are a number of things you can do about snoring as follows:

  1. Lose Weight

The single most important thing you can try and do to stop snoring is to lose weight. Losing weight decreases the excess fat in that area responsible for snoring, and as a result, there's less tissue to vibrate.

  1. Clear your sinuses

When your sinuses are congested, you have to work that much harder to get air in and out through your nose. As a result, tissue vibrates more and makes your snoring louder. You can do something to clear your sinuses, either with medications or surgeries.

  1. Sleep in proper positions

Snoring is also, at times, a sort of what we call a positional phenomenon. It tends to be worse when you sleep on your back or less severe when you sleep on your side for whatever reason, and this gets into the mechanics of the airway. You take the vibrating less when you're on their side or on your stomach for that matter, rather than on your back

  1. Use Anti-snoring mouthpiece or nose clips

The anti-snoring mouthpiece is breathing strips, which basically open up in nasal passageways, and as a result, it improves airflow after your nose and makes you work less hard to get air through that upper airway. As a result, you vibrate less in your snoring.

Neomen, is a trusted brand for this purpose. It offers different kinds of silicon-made anti-snoring mouthpieces that can fit comfortably in your mouth, thanks to its boil-and-bite molding process. Not only can it help stop snoring, but it also helps prevent Bruxism and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.

Neomen also offers magnetic anti-snoring nose clips that aid in keeping airways in the throat open through magnetic therapy and acupressure.

  1. Treat sleep apnea

As you treat sleep apnea, then you're going to eliminate snoring automatically. Both are treated by the device called a CPAP machine. CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. This is basically a mask that fits over the nose, sometimes over the nose and mouth, connected by some tubing to a small machine about the size of a poster. This device generates pressurized air, which is a push with the tubing through the mask and that into the airway. It keeps the airway open to eliminate the apnea, and in the process, eliminates snoring.
